“1979” è la traccia numero 5 del secondo CD di “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”, terzo album del gruppo “Smashing Pumpkins”. Uscito nel 1995, questa canzone è il primo singolo estratto dall’album. Gli Smashing Pumpkins sono un gruppo musicale alternative rock statunitense, formatosi a Chicago nel 1988. Sono considerati uno dei più importanti e influenti gruppi di successo degli anni novanta. L’album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness” ha venduto oltre 10 milioni di copie nei soli Stati Uniti. La formazione attuale della band è composta da Billy Corgan(voce e chitarra), Mike Byrne(batteria), Jeff Schroeder(chitarra) e Nicole Fiorentino(basso).
