“A Horse With No Name” è la traccia numero 4 di “America”, album d’esordio del gruppo “America”. Uscito nel 1971, questa canzone è il primo singolo estratto dall’album. Gli America sono un gruppo musicale anglo-statunitense caratterizzato da un rock leggero e vicino al sound della West Coast, molto popolari agli inizi degli anni ‘70 e degli anni ‘80. La band era formata da Gerry Beckley(voce, tastiera, chitarra, basso armonica), Dewey Bunnell(voce, chitarra) e Dan Peek(voce, tastiera, chitarra, basso, armonica). Quest’ultimo è morto il 24 luglio 2011. L’album “America” raggiunge la prima posizione nella Billboard 200 per cinque settimane. “A Horse With No Name” è stato uno dei singoli più venduto degli America. Il brano ricorda, per sonorità e voce, Neil Young, anche se, secondo l’autore, Dewey Bunnell, la cosa è dovuta al caso. La canzone è stata usata come colonna sonora dei film “Air America”(1990) e “American Hustle – L’apparenza inganna”(2013). È stata inoltre utilizzata in due episodi del videogioco “Grand Theft Auto”.
