“Whatever You Want” è la traccia numero 1 di “Whatever You Want”, dodicesimo album del gruppo “Status Quo”. Uscito nel 1979, questa canzone è il primo singolo estratto dall’album. Gli Status Quo sono una rock band inglese caratterizzata da una forte vena boogie, che ha riscosso molto successo negli anni ‘70. Il gruppo fu fondato da Alan Lancaster(basso) e da Francis Rossi(chitarra, solista e voce) nel 1962. Lancaster ha abbandonato il gruppo nel 1985. La band attuale è formata da Rossi, Rick Parfitt(chitarra ritmica, voce), Andy Bown(tastiere), John Rhino Edwards(basso) e Leon Cave(batteria). Gli Status Quo hanno venduto 120 milioni di dischi. Il gruppo è l’unico a vantare presenze nelle “Top 20 singles” in Inghilterra per cinque decenni consecutivi(anni sessanta/anni duemila). Tra i brani simbolo della rock music di ogni tempo, “Whatever You Want” si rivela un pezzo semplice ed essenziale ma nel contempo versatile e di elevato valore compositivo. Rimane tuttora uno dei pezzi più amati, ballati ed ascoltati della storia del rock.
