“The House of the Rising Sun” è la traccia numero 1 di “The Animals”, album d’esordio del gruppo “The Animals”. Uscito nel 1964, questa canzone è il primo singolo estratto dall’album. Gli Animals sono stati una rock band britannica degli anni sessanta originaria di Newcastle. La band era formata da Eric Burdon(voce), Alan Price(tastiere), Hilton Valentine(chitarra elettrica), John Steel(batteria), Chas Chandler(basso), Dave Rowberry(organo, pianoforte) e Barry Jenkins(batteria). La canzone ”The House of the Rising Sun” ha come argomento una vita sfortunata ed è ambientata a New Orleans. L’espressione “House of the Rising Sun”(Casa del sole nascente) è un eufemismo per indicare una casa chiusa. Alcuni ritengono che la casa sia esistita realmente e che fosse presieduta da una maitresse di origini francesi chiamata Marianne Le Soleil Levant, dal cui cognome(o forse soprannome) sembra essere derivata la denominazione della casa.
