All’epoca il gruppo era formato da Tom Petty(voce, chitarre, pianoforte, tastiera, percussioni, basso, armonica a bocca, produzione discografica), Mike Campbell(chitarre, basso elettrico, tastiere, produzione discografica, chitarra slide), Howie Epstein(basso elettrico, cori), Benmont Tench(pianoforte, pianoforte elettrico, vibrafono, fisarmonica, organo) e Stan Lynch(percussioni). Tom Petty è un chitarrista, cantante e compositore statunitense. Inizia la sua carriera discografica come “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers”, quando la band irrompe nella scena musicale nel 1976 con l’album omonimo di debutto. Nella sua carriera alterna album solisti ad altri con il gruppo. Il singolo “Learning to Fly”, rimase per sei settimane in vetta alla classifica Mainstream Rock Tracks di Billboard. Tom Petty è morto il 2 ottobre 2017 per un arresto cardiaco nella sua casa di Malibu.
