“How Soon Is Now?” è la traccia numero 5 di “Hatful of Hollow”, prima raccolta del gruppo “The Smiths”. Uscito nel 1984, questa canzone è il primo singolo estratto dell’album. Gli Smiths sono stati un gruppo alternative rock inglese, formatosi a Manchester nel 1982. Raggiunta la popolarità nel corso degli anni ‘80, hanno avuto grande influenza nello sviluppo della musica rock degli anni successivi ed un notevole seguito di pubblico. Il gruppo si è sciolto nel 1987. I componenti erano Morrissey(voce), Johnny Marr(chitarra), Andy Rourke(basso) e Mike Joyce(batteria). Il brano “How Soon Is Now” è originariamente uscito un anno prima, come b-side di “William, It Was Really Nothing”. Il testo racconta la storia di un individuo che non riesce a vincere la sua atavica timidezza.
